Wilson
is a small community in Teton County in northwestern Wyoming. It's located just northwest of Jackson on State Highway 22, at the base of Teton Pass. As of the 2010 census, the population of Wilson was 1,482. Wilson was originally settled in 1889 by Elijah Nicholas Wilson, who wrote a book about his experiences of having lived with the Shoshone Indian tribe as a boy in the 1850s. The town was named in his honor. Wilson is home to Owen Bircher Park, which includes horse corrals and an ice rink. Wilson's location near Jackson Hole brings visitors from all over for the spectacular outdoor recreation. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Snow King and Grand Targhee ski resort areas are nearby. Some of the other recreational activities in the area include hiking, whitewater rafting, fishing, golf, horseback riding, mountain climbing, biking, camping and picnicking. In winter, the area is most well-known for its' downhill skiing, but there's also lots of opportunities for snowmobiling, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, sledding, dog sledding and more. Wilson is also near a number of fine arts organizations, including the Congressionally-designated National Museum of Wildlife Art, the Grand Teton Music Festival, and the Center for the Arts.

Southeastern Idaho has a unique four-season climate. The area's precipitation is approximately 20-30 inches, which is among the highest in southern Idaho. This unusually high precipitation is due to the unique geography of southern Idaho and Yellowstone. The Snake River Plain was formed by the Yellowstone hot spot across southern Idaho, and it forms a moisture channel that extends from the Pacific Ocean to Yellowstone area. This southeastern corner at the head of the Snake River Plain and at the end of the Yellowstone moisture channel gets as much snow as the typical ski towns of Colorado. In contrast, summers are hot and humidity is low throughout the state. Occasionally, moisture-laden air from the south produces thunderstorms.
