Alpine
is a small town located at the southern end of the Snake River Canyon in west-central Wyoming. As of the 2010 census, the population was 828. Alpine sits near the border of Idaho, and 3 rivers converge in the vicinity: the Snake, the Salt, and the Greys. All three rivers flow into the Palisades Reservoir. The Alpine area is well-known for its snowmobiling and backcountry skiing opportunities. This region receives nearly 500 inches of snow annually, and snowmobile season runs from late November through late April, depending on the weather. Alpine is nearly as popular as nearby Jackson Hole for snowmobiling and skiing, although it's much more quiet and peaceful. The Wyoming Range area between Alpine and Kemmerer contains 335 miles of trails with some of the best terrain in the United States. The main trails are groomed every other day and the secondary trails are groomed every other week. Alpine is home to the annual Mountain Days Festival and Dutch Oven Cook-Off, an event that's even been featured on the Food Network Channel. The festival features a mountain man village, Native American dancers, horse shoe tournament, knife and tomahawk toss, black powder gun shoot, and lots of good food. The town of Alpine is also host to an annual Christmas Party with Santa, an International Rocky Mountain Stage Stop Sled Dog Race.

West-central Wyoming, on the Idaho border , the overall climate is relatively cool, due to its' elevation. Summers are warm during the day, but summer nights are almost invariably cool. Temperatures depend on the elevation, with the mountains and high valleys being much cooler with average lows in the middle of the summer in the 30s and 40s, with occasional drops below freezing. Lower elevations have lows in the 50s and 60s. In the wintertime it's normal to have rapid and frequent changes between mild and cold spells. The sun shines in Wyoming 60 percent of the time in the winter to about 75 percent during the summer. Precipitation ranges from 7 to 10 inches per year.
