Savery
is a small community located in south-central Wyoming on the Colorado border. It's within Carbon County on the banks of the upper Little Snake River along WY Route 70. Savery lies south of the city of Rawlins. The population of Savery is approximately 124 and the elevation is 6,777 feet above sea level. The town's website says this was the "stomping grounds of Jim Baker, a mountain man and one of the few oldest pioneers in the Rocky Mountains." In 1917, Jim Baker's cabin was transported to Cheyenne to be preserved as part of the states heritage, and Jim and his wife are buried one mile west of Savery. The major attraction in Savery is the Little Snake River Valley Museum, which is housed in an old schoolhouse. Included in the exhibits are old clothing, books, quilts, dolls, mercantile and farm implements, with exhibits depicting the history of this secluded ranching area. There is another museum called the Outlaw Stop in nearby Baggs. The drive between the two museums is very beautiful, so it makes a very nice all-day adventure, visiting the two places on the same day. Savery also offers stores with supplies, groceries, and campsites with hookups. There are also weekly roping events on the rodeo grounds in the town of Savery during the summertime. There are a couple of dude ranches in the area for lodging where you can fish, ride horseback, kick back and relax and enjoy the view.

South-central Wyoming,on the Colorado border ,the climate is semi-arid. The elevation is approximately 6,200 feet in this region. Winters are long, cold and dry, and summers are warm to hot, with cool nights. Temperatures plummet after the sun goes down, even though daytime readings may be very high. It's not unusual for it to drop below freezing at night, even in the middle of summer. Wintertime has rapid and frequent changes between mild and cold spells. Snow falls frequently November to May, and amounts vary according to elevation. Warm Chinook winds are common, especially along the eastern slopes. This may cause severe blowing and drifting of snow at times. Spring and autumn in south-central Wyoming are short and mild.

The closest airports in the area are the Yampa Valley airport (HDN) located about 40 miles south of Savery in Hayden, Colorado, Shively Field (SAA) located approximately 43 miles northeast of Savery in Saratoga, Wyoming, Rawlins Municipal Harvey Field (RWL) located roughly 55 miles north of Savery in Rawlins, Wyoming, and finally the Meeker airport (EEO) located around 71 miles southwest of Savery in Meeker, Colorado.
