Saratoga is located in south-central Wyoming's Carbon County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,690 residents. The town of Saratoga was incorporated in the 1900s and is centered in a spectacular area of mountain scenery, streams full of blue-ribbon trout and numerous year-round recreational activities. Wintertime activities include cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice fishing and sledding. In the summer, along with trout fishing, other things to do include boating, rafting and tubing on the rivers, swimming, sightseeing for wildlife, scenic drives and camping. The Saratoga Campground is located one mile north of the town of Saratoga on Wyoming Highway 130/230. Places of interest include the Pick Bridge over the North Platte River, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Veterans Island Park, the Saratoga Museum. The latter contains geological artifacts, as well as books, postcards and other memorabilia of the town. There is also a historic hot springs located on the banks of the Platte River near Saratoga. This natural hot springs was once believed to contain healing properties, going back to the days of the American Indians that lived in the area. A caboose was later added and is available to the public as part of the museum, and the area around the museum has been landscaped with additional exterior exhibits. Saratoga is also known for its' annual Ice Fishing Derby, usually held in January each year.

Saratoga Weather & Climate

South-central Wyoming has a semi-arid climate, as does most of the state of Wyoming. The elevation is approximately 6,800 feet, which translates to an overall cool climate. Maximum summer temperatures rarely exceed 85 to 95 degrees F. In some places at around 9,000 feet, the average temperature in July is closer to 70 degrees F. Summer nights are almost always cool, even though daytime readings may be very high at times. It may sometimes drop below freezing in the middle of summer. Wintertime has rapid and frequent changes between mild and cold spells. There are usually less than ten cold spells during a winter. Snow falls frequently November to May, and amounts vary according to elevation. Warm Chinook winds are common, especially along the eastern slopes.
