Pinedale is a small town located in west-central Wyoming, considered the "Gateway to the Wind River Mountains." As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,030 residents. Pinedale is also near the major tourist area of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. There are some 1,300 crystal clear lakes in the Pinedale region; one of them just four miles away, named Fremont Lake. Fremont Lake is Wyoming's second-largest natural lake and one of the most popular recreational lakes in the state. Some of the activities include fishing, hiking, camping, boating, four-wheeling, hunting, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and ice skating. The town of Pinedale is also host to the Green River Rendezvous, which is a reenactment of historic fur trader gatherings at the Upper Green River Rendezvous Site. The Wind River Range (called "Winds" for short,) is a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains in western Wyoming. The Continental Divide follows the crest of the range and includes Gannett Peak, which at 13,804 feet is the highest peak in Wyoming. With the exception of the Grand Teton in the Teton Range, the next 19 highest peaks in the state of Wyoming, after Gannett Peak, are also in the Winds. Two national forests are included in the Winds, and it's a popular destination for mountain climbing, hiking and skiing. The oldest ski area in the state of Wyoming is also located in the Winds, near the town of Pinedale.
