Centennial
is a small, historic community located in southeastern Wyoming at the foot of the Snowy Range Mountains. It's along Highway 130, which is a National Scenic Byway, and only one mile from the Medicine Bow National Forest and five miles from the Snowy Range Ski Area. Outdoor recreation is abundant in the area, in both summer and winter. Activities include fishing, camping, hiking, backpacking, skiing, mountain biking, hunting and more. It's a gorgeous area of spectacular mountain ranges, deep glacial lakes, grassy meadows, rushing trout streams and granite peaks. The town of Centennial is home to a dinner theater and the Phoenix Gallery, which features work of local artists. The history of Centennial began as the Union Pacific Railroad linked up with the Central Pacific Railroad to form the First Transcontinental Railroad. A few years later, gold was discovered on what would become known as Centennial Ridge on Centennial Mountain in 1875. As miners and prospectors started coming to the area to work the Centennial Mine, they soon established a town that they named Centennial in honor of the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence of the United States.

Centennial Weather & Climate

Southeastern Wyoming has a semi-arid climate with long, cold, dry winters and short, warm, wet summers. Unlike states further east, the most snowfall is received in March and April, with an average of 60 inches in the higher elevations. Thick snow cover rarely lasts long, however. Summer temperatures are warm during the day, but often cools down rapidly at night. Spring and autumn are quick transition months. The annual precipitation tends to be concentrated from May to August and is low during fall and winter. This region averages 2980 hours of sunshine per year. Occasional hailstorms are the most destructive type of storm in Wyoming. Tornadoes are possible, but rare.
